The design process began with a comprehensive study of Oman's history, culture, and traditions. The goal was to incorporate these elements into a contemporary design that would appeal to the young demographic of Mountain Dew consumers. Despite the brand's strong visual language, the designers managed to maintain its identity while infusing it with elements that reflect the occasion.
Matter's design approach was unique and challenging. The team had to adhere to the rigorous guidelines of a global brand like Mountain Dew while producing a design that was relevant to the occasion. The challenge was not just to create a design that stayed true to the brand's persona, but also to connect with the people of Oman on a national occasion.
The design was realized using can printing technology. The concept creation and design process for this project was based in Cairo, Egypt. The project started in July 2016, and was ready for printing in October, 2016. The product was then released in the Sultanate of Oman during their national day celebrations in November, 2016.
The design was awarded Silver in A' Packaging Design Award in 2017. The award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
In conclusion, Matter's design for the special edition Mountain Dew can is a testament to the brand's ability to adapt and resonate with different cultures. It is a celebration of Oman's rich culture and a tribute to its people, while staying true to the brand's bold and daring persona.
